About me

Dr. Manriquez began her career as a teacher in Los Angeles in 1989. Since then, Consuelo has served as a bilingual teacher, Title 1 resource teacher, technology coordinator, vice-principal, and principal in various schools in San Diego.She has worked in private, district, and charter schools.
 
In her work, she demonstrated success in accelerating the achievement of all students and in particular, English Language Learners. In 2019, she co-authored the book Five Practices for Improving the Success of Latino Students.
 
Consuelo is a lifelong learner, traveler, and community activist. Also, she was co-owner/creator of Calaca Press, a press dedicated to promoting Latinx and Chicanx writers and poets. She published 31 titles in 10 years and organized over 100 community events in San Diego. One of her biggest accolades is being one of the women in the Chicana Tributes: Activist Women of the Civil Rights Movement - Stories for the New Generation book published
in 2017.
