Born in Tijuana, B.C., Mexico, Sra. GL (Garay-Lopez) comes from a family of teachers: her mother a retired one and her sister a current elementary teacher. After finishing middle school in Tijuana, Sra. GL started high school and continued higher education at Southwestern Community College. She graduated in 2018 from San Diego State University with a Spanish major and a Women's Studies minor. She finished her Single Subject certification classes in 2021 and is working to pass her exams to get her BCLAD (Bilingual, Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development) certification.

Sra. GL has multiple experience working with children and youth in the classroom and outside of it. She had the chance to work with the YMCA as an after school youth leader, a child assistant at a Navy CYP center, a tutor and a substitute teacher in the San Ysidro School District.
